Glass Magic
The key to making glass magically appear is to either lighten or darken it's edges.
To show light edges you must set up a dark background with light coming from both the left and right.
- One way to do this is to hang a black piece of cloth on a white wall directly behind your subject, the glass.
- Next you can bounce one light off the right side and another on the left side where the wall is left uncovered.
- The result is a dark spot surrounded in light. A glass placed infront of this scene will produce a shiny edged glass image.
To show dark edges you must only invert the process done above. You will want a well lit white background surrounded by black pieces of cloth. Make sure these black pieces of cloth to the right and left of your white background are not visible in your photo.
Hope this helps you with your glass lighting adventures :)
On this last photo, I decided to just play with my background. You can see, since I did not follow the usual setup, a lot more light is reflected on different areas of the glass.
Making the Invisible Visible
Glass is a tricky subject to photograph due to the fact that it is a transparent material. You can see right through it and when making a photo the edges seem to disappear.
My mission for this project was to make those edges appear and make the glass itself look amazing. It's all about playing with the light. Pretty fun stuff ;)

Side Post: My Hope, My Proof
Anything is possible and the constant reminder of this fact is his existence. Our natural coexistence formed magically and evolved from an innocent friendship into a passionate entanglement.

Atados
Atados, meaning tied together in Spanish, is my first photo essay about a special kind of magic.
I saw it fitting to post it today, December 4th, because I was born on this day. Twenty six years ago, a magical and unbreakable bond between a child and her parents was created.
The following images represent special memories that I would like to always keep alive. An image has the ability to make people immortal but I believe people have this ability as well. My beloved father passed away earlier this year and from time to time I stop to think about the little things I miss the most about his personality and how I would never want to forget these details. I have come to realize, though, that some of his traits, be some strong or weak, have become my own. My father magically lives on in me.
Through these images I attempt to show this ever-lasting bond between my father and I. He did not go, he only changed. We are no longer divided. We are one. Magic ;)

Witam! Welcome to Photography: The Art of Magic!
The art of magic? Yes, magic. Sounds silly, right? What am I, five? You were five once upon a time. Do you remember way back when Mom would magically make all the pain disappear by cleaning and bandaging your wound? What about when Dad magically fixed your toy train when in your mind all hope was lost and despair reigned because it had fallen on the ground losing two of its wheels? Magic existed then, so why not now?
Magic is about seeing no limits and making things happen with what you have. We all possess a great and unstoppable tool that all great magicians must master, a mind. Magicians make impossible things happen with what seems like the mere movement of a wand. Behind that simple act lie several tactics and preparations that must be thought of by the magician before his or her trick can be delivered flawlessly. One must learn and prepare him/herself to wheel this great magic.
I believe great photographers to be magicians, making impossible things happen with the press of a button. To become a great photographer one must learn, make mistakes, and rise to the occasion.
Photography: The Art of Magic was made to give a photography dreamer a space to grow and learn by accomplishing weekly photo specifications designed to broaden the mind. The goal is to post an attempt at magic every week. First post is set to appear on the 4th of December, 2010.
